What is TMJ Release?

Many of us hold tension and clench our jaws throughout the day and night. For some people, this results in a diagnosis of TMJD (temporal mandibular joint disorder), but you don’t need a formal diagnosis to experience debilitating pain, clicking, popping, trouble eating or speaking, or headaches originating from in this sensitive joint and muscular system, nor do you need a formal diagnosis to receive the benefits of this treatment!

A TMJ Release session begins with us discussing your condition, and then moving on to the massage table, where I massage the supporting muscles of the neck, jaw, and scalp. This provides me with valuable information, and warms up the tissue for the deeper work. Using sterile gloved hands, I then go into the oral cavity to release three muscles that contribute to jaw pain, tension, and TMJD. We work one side at a time at your own body’s pace and consent, and take breaks as needed. We always balance the session by working both sides, and doing some cool-down massage to ease any inflammation.

It is an active session that provides immediate, long-lasting relief!
